Living Room Ideas
Do you need some living room ideas for a small room? Traditionally, the living room consists of a sofa, pair of chairs and a few occasional tables.
Keep the clutter down to make the room feel more spacious and use the vertical wall space as much as you can. For example, floating shelves can be used for ornaments or books and opt for a tall CD/DVD storage unit.
Media equipment
The TV is the focal point of many living rooms these days, with seating arranged around it. Position it so that glare does not interfere with daytime viewing. Think about how you store or mount your media equipment. Flat screens mean that the TV does not have to take up nearly the amount of space anymore. Ideally, keep your media equipment together in a single cabinet or built-in. Other suggestions are:
Can you mount your TV and stereo speakers on the wall or on a special holder? Can you recess speakers into the wall?
A universal remote that will control all equipment.
Find creative places to store your remotes and keep them handy at the same time. You can use a drawer in your multi-purpose coffee table (see below), or hand sew some pouches that overlap a chair or sofa arm. Alternatively, a lidded ornamental box on a sie or coffee table can do the trick.
Transfer any old media tapes, like casettes and videos onto flatter CDs and DVDs, then throw out the old stuff.
Care for, and organize your electrical cords using Velcro ties, plastic clips, flexible tubing and labels - these are easily available at hardware stores and home centers.
 Seating
Another way to save on space is to use love seats instead of a sofa, as these are 12-18 inches shorter. You could try using two love seats and one chair with a cocktail table and just one end table.
Buy double duty furniture like a combination ottomon and coffee table with storage underneath. There are some clever designs around now (see the pictured example on the right from Visiondecor Furniture).
