In any basement makeover, you can get as creative as you like. It all depends on how much space you have to play with, your budget and your imagination. To generate basement design ideas for your game room, consider the sort of games you want to have in your game room. If the basement is not particularly large, it will look good with a focal point, like a pool table or poker table. If you have more space, you'll be able to create zones in the room where you might have other games (see below for ideas).

There are a huge range of pool tables and accessories available. Extras to consider are lighting, cue holders, seating, drinks tables and custom table felt. When you order a pool table or recover an existing pool table, traditional green felt is not the only option...there are many colors and patterns available now, including themed patterns.

Lighting - you'll need to consider lighting for the pool table and background lighting for the rest of the basement. Install a dimmer switch for extra control of ceiling or wall lamps.

Tables - You'll want somewhere to leave your drinks and snacks between shots at standing height. Pub-style tables are popular. You might have lower tables further back from the pool table for spectators to sit and watch.

Seating - consider pub-styled stools for higher tables and matching chairs for lower tables.

You could also consider a jukebox and ping pong table. For the budget-conscious, you may be able to pick these up second-hand.
