Basement bar design can take a number of forms, but essentially it is a bar area with a sink. This type of basement makeover is great for entertaining as it locates the bar where the action is (entertainment) and takes pressure off running to and from the kitchen with drinks or snacks.

A butler's pantry style of bar is one basement bar design that is built into a cabinet or buffet and is typically concealed when the cupboard doors are closed. Inside the cabinet/buffet is a counter, sink with running water and perhaps a small refrigerator for wine and beer storage, as well as shelves for storage of glasses and bottles.

A high counter or bar is out in the open room with a high counter and stools that can be tucked under. The bar would contain a sink, small refrigerator and cupboards for glassware. Other appliances might include a blender and microwave oven.

What you need: You will need access to a waterline for the sink and a plumber to install, unless you're skilled for this yourself. You will need to construct a cabinet or modify an existing one, and finally, if you want to install any electrical appliances such as refrigerator and blender, you will need access to electrical circuits and voltage capacity.
